22 June 2012 Companies Act, 1961???

Rate of Depreciation on Computers as per Companies Act, 1956--

W.D.V. 40%
S.L.M 16.21%

As per Income Tax Act, 1961 its 60%

21 July 2025 As per the Companies Act, 1956, under Schedule XIV (prior to the Companies Act, 2013), the rate of depreciation on computers was:

📌 Depreciation Rates on Computers (Schedule XIV – Companies Act, 1956):
Asset Type Method Rate
Computers and Software WDV 40%
SLM 16.21%

📝 Notes:
WDV (Written Down Value) is higher due to compounding effect.

SLM (Straight Line Method) spreads the depreciation evenly over the useful life.

These rates were standard across most industries under the Companies Act, 1956.
