what is the procedure & required documents to register a propreitor firm? in breif differenciate the rules & applicability of partnership firm & propreitor firm?

There is no registration requirement for Prop. Firm. It is not governed by any specific act like Partnership Firm is governed by The Partnership Act 1932. Individual is fully responsible for Prop. Firm and PAN of Individual and Prop. Firm are same.

There is no separate registration for proprietorship firm like partnership firm but you can obtain the service tax registration or VAT registration in order to operate with your firm name.
