dear all members
is the registrationof services tax is mandatory, for availing a cenvat credit of service tax, if the assessee is a manufacturing unit

all the answer what i got is the registration of service tax is mandatory if my out put service is taxable . but clearly if i am a manufacturer than whether this registration is mandatory to me, in case when no output of service is there.

service tax registration is compulsory if u are providing output services and want to avail credit of service tax paid on input services. Application for reg shall be made in form ST-1 and reg. certificate will be in form ST-2.
