i am a senior citizen. my total income is 259000/-, whether i have to pay tax or rebate of 2000 is applicable to me.

Yes.senior citizen also can avail rebate u/s 87A if his total incone is less than 5 lakhs
.

So in ur case u dont need to pay any tax
.
U no need to pay tax upto 270000(250000 basic exemption 20000income for rebate 87A)
.

Note:this section not available to super senior citizen i.e. age above 80 ..as they already get 5 lakhs basic exemption
