what is the relation between articleship registeration date nd attemp for final exam?

To exhibit the link through an example:
If you wish to appear for May 2017 CA finals, you need to register for articleship on or before 1 November 2014 (ie atleast 2.5 years before the 1 Day of the month in which exams are to be held)
