If X joins the employment on 1/1/2012 and his payscale is 20000-1000-30000. What does it exactly mean?
Please help.

The above pay scale indicates that a person joining the employment in above scale will be paid a monthly basic pay of Rs 20000.00 .After completion of each year of satisfactory service, the basic pay will be increased by Rs 1000. Ie : after one year of service,the monthly basic pay will be Rs 21000, after two years of satisfactory service the monthly basic pay will be Rs 22000.00 so on, till the basic pay reaches Rs 30000. If the employee remains in the same job without promotion ,after that ,his basic pay will not be increased beyond Rs 30000.Organisations normally pay in addition to above type of basic pay many other allowances such as Dearness Allowance,House Rent Allowances etc.These allowances are paid in most cases as a specified percentage of the basic pay.
