Payment of int./penalty u/s 234e

Now a days lot of letters recd.from traces regarding payment of interest and late filing fee 234e. Payment of int.is acceptable but what about the 234e which is not rational. Please guide whether fee is payable or not.

12 February 2014 well 234E fee amount may be considerable. whether it is rational or not is for legislature or courts to decide. AS the law stands today, it is payable unless you wish to appeal against it. Whether you would get any relief is something that till date no one has been able to achieve. there is one case in kerala High court where arguments are going on against the constitutional validity of 234E. But no one can predict the verdict.
