How to change status in PAN ??
I had applied for PAN in the status of HUF but deptt. had issued in the status of Partnership Firm, now I am not able to e-file my return because it is showing ITR 5 whereas I have to file ITR 4 as it is tax audit case. I am having copy of PAN Application Form also.
Pls reply immediately whether I should apply for new PAN and file rerturn with it.

There is no option to change the status of PAN holder. Therefore, to my understanding, the existing PAN has to be surrendered for deactivation and apply afresh with status as HUF.

In my view before applying for new PAN you should write a letter to--
Income Tax PAN Service Unit,
National Security Depository Limited,
3rd Floor, Sapphire Chambers,
Baner, Pune - 411045
Informing them about the mistake and also enclose the copy of Acknowledgment/ PAN application form xerox.
