Notice for Wrong PAN in ITR

06 April 2011 By mistake i have written wrong pan number in my itr for AY 2009-10. suppose my pan is APAPS1672K but by mistake i have written in ITR as ABAPS1672K.

Now i have received a notice from Dy COmmisioner of Income Tax wherefollowing is written.
"Please refer to your return of income filed before the undersigned for the AY 2009-10 vide receipt no.XXXX dated XXXX. On perusal of your return it appears that you have mentioned incorrect PAN.
You are therefore requested to inform the correct PAn along with copy of PAN card to justify your PAN, failing which your return will be treated as no return."

Now i request experts to send me a draft reply which i shall submit to the Dy commisioner of Income tax along with copy of my PAN card.

06 April 2011 The body of the letter can be drafted as follows:-

I have filed my income tax return for the assessment year 2009-10 on...... vide acknowledgement number....... before the Dy commissioner of Income tax ... circle at..... In the said return, I have, due to an oversight, quoted the PAN wrongly. My correct PAN is........ vide the enclosed copy of the PAN card.
I would like to inform that the error was due to an inadvertent mistake from my part which may be excused.
I therefore humbly request you that, the return already filed may be accepted and assessment may be completed by considering the above facts also.
I also request you that I may be exonerated from the penal provisions of the Income tax Act,1961 since the mistake was not deliberately done by me.
