The rules and regulations regarding attempts for the CA exams are governed by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). Here’s a breakdown of the rules related to attempts for CA PCC/IPCC and the subsequent procedures:
### **Attempt Rules for CA Exams**
1. **Attempts for PCC/IPCC:** - **PCC (Professional Competence Course):** Candidates are allowed a maximum of 4 attempts. - **IPCC (Integrated Professional Competence Course):** Candidates are allowed a maximum of 5 attempts. - This means if you are a PCC student, you have a maximum of 4 attempts to clear both groups. For IPCC students, you have 5 attempts to clear both groups.
2. **Passing One Group and Carrying Forward:** - If you pass one group in your attempts, that result is valid for future attempts. You don’t need to reappear for the group you have already passed. You can focus on the remaining group(s) in subsequent attempts. - For example, if you pass Group 1 and fail to clear Group 2 in your attempts, you can carry forward the passed Group 1 result while focusing on clearing Group 2 in your future attempts.
3. **Counting Attempts:** - An attempt is counted when you appear for the exams. If you do not appear for the exams after registering for that attempt, it is generally counted as an attempt. - If you fail to appear for the exam, it is still considered an attempt unless you withdraw your registration or the examination is canceled by ICAI.
4. **Re-registration:** - If you exhaust your attempts, you can re-register for the course. When you re-register, your previous attempts and any passed groups will still be valid. You will start afresh with the remaining attempts but won’t lose the credit for passed groups.
### **ICAI Notifications and Updates**

1. **ICAI Official Website:** Visit the [ICAI website](https://www.icai.org) and check under the examination section for the latest notifications and updates.
2. **ICAI Announcements:** Regularly check for announcements related to examination policies and rules on the ICAI website.
3. **Examination Guidelines:** Review the ICAI’s examination guidelines and handbooks which often include details about attempts and re-registration.
### **Additional Resources**
- **ICAI Helpdesk:** Contact the ICAI helpdesk for specific queries related to your situation. They can provide clarity on individual cases and updated rules. - **ICAI Regional Offices:** Visit or contact your regional ICAI office for personalized advice and official documentation regarding examination attempts and policies.
If you need official notifications, checking the ICAI’s official website or contacting their support would be the most reliable way to get updated and accurate information.
