medical expenses exemption in income tax return

19 March 2011 Dear Sir,

I my gross salary i get medical allowance Rs.1000/-. I have spent Rs.6500/- for my son medical expenses ( Hospital Bills).(F.Y.10-11). and Rs.41000/- spent for my fathers medical expenses.i have paid mediclaime policy premimum Rs.1,700 for may family only ont for parent.

how much exemption / deduction i get in my income tax return ( what is income tax section )

22 March 2011 You can get deduction u/s. 80D for mediclaim policy premium of Rs.1,700/-.

For medical expenses, if you are getting fixed allowance from your employer, you cannot reduce your taxable salary. But if you are getting reimbursement based on bills, reimbursement of medical expenses upto Rs.15,000/- in a year is not to be included in taxable salary.

No other deduction for actual expenses incurred is available.
