Indian ship crew salary taxable or not ?

11 July 2013 My Client is an Indian Ship Crew member who is working for an Indian Shipping company, going abroad on an Indian Ship, and his stay in India is 166days.

I would like to know whether his salary received is taxable or not ?

He is receiving salary from abroad in his Bank account in India.

Please tell me whether he is resident or non-resident and if salary is credited to the bank situated in India then is he taxable ?

11 July 2013 It will be convenient to reply if you specifically provide the details of person and place of remittance of the proceeds. "From abroad" is a wide (World-India) term.

Also gather the information about the Tax withheld on salary .
.
Please go through the terms of DTAA with the country of remittance.
.
The status of the person is NRI. If the proceeds are remitted through his NRE a/c then it is not taxable in India.
