Is it mandatory for an employee to report Rent Agreement and PAN of the landlord to the employer?

Rent agreement is not mandatory. But rent receipt and PAN / no PAN declaration becomes mandatory in the following cases.
1. Salaried employees drawing HRA of Rs. 3,000 and more has to give rent receipt to the employer for TDS purposes.
2. If the annual rent paid by the employee exceeds Rs. 1,00,000/- per annum, it is mandatory for the employee to report PAN of the landlord to the employer. In case the landlord does not have PAN, a declaration to this effect from the landlord along with the name and address of the land lord should be filed by the employee.
