Quick Summary
If you have multiple house properties, you can only claim one as self-occupied. The remaining properties, if let out, are taxed based on their rental income. You cannot claim a property as self-occupied on a notional basis if it is actually rented out. This rule applies even if you have more than two properties available.

21 July 2021 Case : If Mr.x has 5 house property. out of which 4 are let out and 1 is self occupied. he gets rent for 4 house property.

Query : Now can he claim 2 house property as self occupied on notional basis for AY 2021-22?

22 July 2021 No, he can't claim as 4 houses are rented out. Self occupied benefit can't be claimed for rented house.

23 July 2021 Option to choose self occupied not available in case of let out property.
