1. what is service tax?
2. on what it is applicable?
3. what are the deduction procedure?

21 May 2010 1. Service tax is an Indirect tax levived on services

2. It is applicable on taxable service category notified by the Govt

3. No deduction process ,a serivice receiver need to pay the service tax to the service provided and the same was deposited to the Govt by the Service provider

22 May 2010 Service tax is tax charged to bills raised for services provided.Total service tax is paid on monthly basis to Excise Deptt. Cr.of service tax is available on the service tax paid by the company.

22 May 2010 thanks a lot for answering,,,but also tel me where can,
1. find the list of services liable for service tax?
2. rate/percentage of different services,to be deducted?
3.are salaried person liable for their services to company or just professionals?

23 May 2010 you can check in www.servicetaxindia.gov.in or www.aces.gov.in & salaried employees not liable for service tax and professional are liable for ST based on services
