Gifts - Registration of deed

When a gift is made, is it sufficient to to execute a gift deed in a Stamp Paper with the signature of donee for accepting the gift and with the signatures of two witnesses? Is registration mandatory for purposes of Income Tax?

registration of gift deed not compulsory anywhere. Sufficient if executed on a Rs. 100/- stamp paper
