excise limit for SSI

24 April 2011 Hello Experts,

Greetings!!

We have a SSI unit manufacturs chemicals in Andhra pradesh.

Our turn over in 2010-2011 is 68 Lakhs. but in 2011-2012 project would be 200lakhs.

Do we have to go for Excise registration. If yes what would be the corret time.

Are there any excemptions for SSI Units.

25 April 2011 EXCISE SSI EXEMPTION NOTIFICATION 8/2003 allows a manufacturer exemption from excise on goods cleared upto a turnover of 1.5 Crores in a financial year provided turover in previous year is less than 4.0 crores.

You need to take registration only once you cross the SSI exemption limit, i.e. is Rs. 1.5 Crores. When you cross the turn over of Rs. 90 Lakh in a financial year you only need to intimate the department.

25 April 2011 Provisions of General SSI exemption

Exemption Notification for SSI
SSI are eligible for exemption from duty under Notification No. 8/2003-CE dated 1-3-2003. The SSI unit need not be registered with any authority

Eligibility for SSI concession
Unit whose turnover was less that Rs 4 crores in previous year are entitled to full exemption upto Rs 150 lakhs in current financial year. SSI unit can avail Cenvat credit on inputs and input services only after it starts paying duty. However, Cenvat credit of capital goods can be availed even if these were received during period of exemption.

-SSI unit manufacturing goods with other’s brand name not eligible for exemption
