Please tell me, What is the Entry Tax?

& i bought one imported Machine to AP, But karanaka state collect entry tax is it correct please clearfy me.

17 September 2008 The state Governments have power ( by virtue of the indian constitution) to collect Entry tax on the value of goods imported to the state either from other states or from abroad.Prima facie the action of Karnataka state seems to be correct.

17 September 2008 With due respect, I disagree with Mr. B. Chakrapani in followings;

1. No state (Karnataka) can collect entry tax on goods imported in some other state.

2. No entry tax is leviable if the goods are imported from out side the Country.

I will welcome, arguments of Mr. Chakrapani.
