18 January 2010 CAN ANYBODY TELL ME THE NAME OF THE BOOK FOR DT CA FINAL..I HAVE T N MANOHARAN..BUT I GOT ONLY 39 MARKS IN DT..ACTUALLY I DONT UNDERSTAND WHAT TO REFER SHALL I REFER V K SINGHANIA? PLEASE TELL ME IN SECOND GROUP I FAILED DUE TO DT

18 January 2010 CA. T.N Manoharan's text book is excellent. Ofcourse you will find some small errors. I suggest you continue referring the same book. Have a clear understanding og the provisions. Quote relevent sections in your answer sheet wherever possible. Try to workout all problems of past examinations independently & refer the answers from the text book for evaluation. T.N Manoharan's text book has answers to all past CA Final exams which is very useful. I had secured 70% in Direct Taxes in May 2004 by referring only T.N Manoharan's book.

18 January 2010 First of all; emphasis your attention on -

1. Taxation of Foreign Transactions (income),

2. Business Exemptions,

3. Amalgamation and Merger,

4. Transfer Pricing,

5. Assessment Proceedings (Best Judgment Assessment and Income Escaping Assessment)

and

MOST IMPORTANTLY PENALTY PROVISIONS.

For practical aspects; when you read penalty provisions; you would be able to know the importance of the procedure to be followed in the tax laws.

In T N Manoharan; reading pleasure is there. It gives good analysis and flow of English is also fine.

But some topics are not covered well.

Still it is a good book.

Don't forget to refer new study material of New Syallbus applicable in CA Final.

Update your knowledge regularly with the help of ca journal and magazines.

Use Master Guide of Income-Tax of Taxmann.

Don't miss the suggested answers of previous 10 attemps.

Prepare yourself in Mock Test in the subject and get it checked with a faculty (with suitable remarks wherever necessary).

Appear in the examination as if you are going for WORLD CUP !
