29 November 2008 Hi,
1. Can a CA do the data entry jobs at home legally as per the institute's prefessional ethics? Data entry jobs include excel work, maintaining a blog, telemarketing, data processing, google ads
2. If not, how can that be legally carried out?
3. How the income from these activities are to be accounted for and taxed in India?
4. Are tax deducted at source from these incomes.
Kindly throw some light on these

29 November 2008 When you do data entry jobs you are holding yourself as accountant to the public and deemed to be in practice, hence COP is must if data entry job is a contract for services.

You can do these things, however, i have doubts regarding telemarketing and google ads. These may be considered as solicitation of work and advertisement, and hence professional misconduct. Simply having data entry job online from various clients will not be misconduct. but advertisements (Google Ads) and Telemarketing is not permissible.

As far as the Tax on the income is concerned, Income will be taxed in india as your business income.

29 November 2008 Continuing Ramakrishna, maintaining blog, telemarketing and google ads comes under business. As u know a COP holder cannot do business without prior permission of icai.

29 November 2008 Please intimate to the institute describing the nature of job, there is no wrong to carry on the job you wishes, they wont deny you for carry on your works,please get the permission at the earliest.
