22 March 2012 Sir I am from science background. But I want to sit for the CPT in this June,2012...Please tell me what is the passing criteria of CPT examination on JUNE,2012?Is it must to obtain 30% marks in each paper of CPT examination of June,2012 to clear the CPT exam?

22 March 2012 Getting 100 or more to pass out of 200 marks total. There is no limit of 30% subject wise.

Passing criteria in CPT:

A student in one sitting has to secure a minimum 50% of total marks for passing CPT exam. It is to be mentioned that CPT is an objective type test with a negative marking which will be indicated in the question paper. There is a negative marking for selecting wrong answer to the extent of 25% marks allotted to a question.

It is clarified that there is no provision for improvement of result of CPT examination, either online or Paper-
Pencil mode, in the Chartered Accountants Regulations, 1988. Therefore, students who have once passed the CPT examination are not eligible to apply again/appear afresh in CPT Online Examination or Paper- Pencil mode examination.

The Council has told that a CPT candidate shall be declared to have passed the test if he obtains at one sitting a minimum of 30% marks in each section and a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all the sections, subject to the principle of negative marking. This will come into effect once the Amendments in the Chartered
Accountants Regulations, 1988 are notified.
