13 January 2014 Dear Sirs,

I have a client who has started a music and dance academy, my question is whether such academy becomes liable to income tax on the incomes generated by following activities:
1. Dance and Music Class
2. Dance and Music Programs.

13 January 2014 yes , as it is income from teaching dance and music..so its income from profession.

13 January 2014 if income is earned for providing professional service then how it is charitable activity and whether your client have registered as charitable trust under income tax act?

13 January 2014 Education is one of the 5 Charitable Activities, my question is whether the activity of teaching classical dance and music considered as education for the purpose of definition of charitable under the income tax act

13 January 2014 yes it can be considered as per definition of charitable activity mentioned u/s 2

but u need to register with income tax dept for this else you cannot enjoy exemption u/s 11 and 12.
