Could anyone tell me how good is to choose Transfer Pricing as a career option in Big 4's?
Will the opportunities get limited to transfer pricing or will I get a chance to explore other tax area?
And lastly will there be a option other than Big 4's after 2-3 years of Exp. in Big 4'S?

You would be surprised to know that transfer pricing is the largest tax issue worldwide bothering corporate executives and directors. Therefore, career avenues in the arena of transfer pricing (particularly in India, where the transfer pricing regime has just completed a decade) are vast and numerous.

At lower levels, you might be restricted to core transfer pricing job (particularly benchmarking and compliance procedures). However, after a few years of experience in transfer pricing, you'll also have exposure to restructuring assignments, which will particularly include international taxation.

Regarding your second query, in the initial years, it is advisable to work in Big Fours. But, after a few years of experience, you may opt to practise on your own or join corporate sector. Companies like GE have their own dedicated transfer pricing departments.

I have similar kind of query. Further to your reply I have following queries:

- TP is growing in India and opportunities in this area will grow. But right now opportunities in TP are only in BIG4 only and there are very few companies in India having own TP deptt like GE Philips etc.

If any person after having 3-4 years of exp. in TP in big4 and want to move to industry. Good opportunities for him in the industry are limited as he knows only TP. Generally industry prefers the persons having knowlege of other areas of tax - international tax,corporate tax and IDT along with TP. In all the Big4 there are seperate dept. for TP, Corp. tax & int. tax.

Please give your advice on the above.

I joined TP in Financial Services in one of the BIG4. I am CA,CS and now want to US CFA. Please advice how US CFA will help me in incrase my career scope.
