Can all directors of company resign

There are 6 directors in a public co. 3 resigned. The remaining 3 directors also resigned after few days. What are the consequences?

The company cannot function. A public company needs to have at least 3 directors.

Will the directors be liable for any non compliance as the company ceased to function and will the company be wound up?
