credit agst service tax

Dear Sir!
We are having huge balance in our "VAT CREDIT RECEIVABLE ACCOUNT".
Same time we are having huge liability against our service tax payable account.
Can it be setoff?
Please confirm.

Meaning of Lineal ascendant

please explain the term Lineal ascendant of an Individual in the view of taxability of gifts as per Section 56? will the term 'Lineal ascendant' include father and mother of mother i.e. grand parents from mother's side? in short, will Grand parents from mother's side of an Individual be termed as Relative for the purpose of taxation of gifts as per section 56? if there are any case laws or decided judgements or articles , please refer?

regarding training period

Dear sir/madam,
i am a regd. student of PCC and my exam date is due on Nov. 2008. I had begun my articleship from Dec. 2006. So presently i have completed 15 months of training (including 105 days of leave for B.com exams).
So am i done with my training or i will have to continue for further three months (so as to complete 18 months).
Please clear my doubts at the earliest.

Cenvat Credit on Capital Goods

Dear Friends,

Please clarify the following .

1. For availing Cenvat Credit on capital goods is it to be started from the date of invoice/ date on which asset put it into use?

2 For the capital goods act says the credit can be set two years. If I purchase a capital item in the month of March can I eligible to get a credit 50 % in the March and remaining in the April

TDS for Income tax exemption zone

Dear All

I am a employe in UTRAKHAND & here there is a income tax exemption for 10 Year. My Problem is :-

1- Will i deduct TDS on Labour jobs bills

A- Labour job bill received from Trader Uttrakhand (Income tax exempted unit)
