14 January 2011 I received an Asst order u/s 143 (1) for AY 2009-10 demanding a tax amount of Rs.5,220/-. But I have already paid and then filed my returns. I have the Tax Payment counterfoil for the said amount. What shall i do now? Is that a petition u/s 154 required?

Just write a simple letter for rectification enclosing photo copies of your tax paid challans.

You need not worry/wait for answer from the department.

14 January 2011 agree with sir.
first of all it is an intimation not assessment order. so if you filed the original return within due date,then revise the return.but before that check the status of 26AS.wheather the said amount has been credited to your account or not.if you filed the return online,then you can also apply online. rectification

Thanks for elaboration.

But I assume that the problem has arised due to non-credit of Tax Paid in the records of I T Department.

However; the status must be checked at 26AS.
