It matter only to a certain extent but ultimately your Knowledge and quality will prevail.
Articleship is important not because of Big firm Tag but because it form your base for your future. So during Articleship period you should be learning the tricks of the trade by getting on hand experience in good assignments. Articleship is not just for the sake of getting eligibility for appearing in Final exam.

I would agree with Sanjay. But I believe that tag also matters a lot...specially in Mumbai and Delhi side...
