14 July 2024 When you are writing a book that includes information sourced from government websites like incometaxindia.gov.in and NSDL/UTIISL, you generally do not need specific permission to use factual information or forms that are available publicly. However, it is good practice and a requirement of academic and ethical integrity to acknowledge your sources properly.

### Permission Requirements:
1. **Source/Courtesy Attribution**: You should clearly state in your book the source of the information and forms you have used. This typically involves citing the website or organization from which you obtained the information. For example, you can state: "The PAN card application form used in this book is sourced from NSDL website (www.nsdl.com)."

2. **No Objection Generally**: Government websites often provide information with the intent that it is publicly accessible and used for informational purposes. As long as you are not misrepresenting the information or using it in a misleading manner, and you provide proper attribution, you typically do not need to seek permission.

### Copyright Considerations:
- **Government Information**: Information provided by government websites usually falls under public domain or is freely usable with proper attribution. Forms and procedures are usually not copyrighted in the traditional sense.

- **Original Content**: If you are using original content such as your own explanations, analyses, or creative expressions, those are automatically protected by copyright once they are fixed in a tangible form (like in your book).

### Copyright Registration:
- **Procedure**: In many countries, including India, copyright protection is automatic upon creation of the work. However, if you wish to register your copyright formally, you can do so through the Copyright Office. The process typically involves filling out an application form, providing copies of your work, and paying a fee.

- **Duration**: Copyright protection generally lasts for the lifetime of the author plus 60 years in India.

### Steps to Apply for Copyright in India:
1. **Application Form**: Obtain Form XIV (for literary works like books) from the Copyright Office website or office.

2. **Documentation**: Prepare copies of your manuscript or the work you want to copyright.

3. **Fees**: Pay the required fee, which varies depending on whether you submit online or in person.

4. **Submission**: Submit your application form along with the required documents and fee to the Copyright Office.

### Conclusion:
For your book on PAN card and IT return filing procedures, ensure you properly attribute the sources of your information from government websites. It's generally not necessary to seek specific permission for using factual information, but proper citation is crucial. As for copyright, your original content in the book is automatically protected, but you can opt for formal registration if you choose.
