about is there any exemption for charging service tax to educational institutions for work carried out under works contract?

21 November 2008 Govt has exempted services provided in relation to construction of a port or other port. However, services of completion and finishing, repair, alteration, renovatation, restoration, maintenance or repair provided in relation to existing port or other port is not exempted. Hence your case is taxable.

21 November 2008 Question is whether educational institution is exempted from service tax. Answer given above seems to be not related to the question.

21 November 2008 The above answer is pertaining to works contract which is exempt for Port services not for all other works contract for government departments. Even it does not seems to that particular question which is related to that question and respective answer is given.

05 September 2013 No service tax liability provided the matter is covered under item 13(c) of notification 25/2012-ST dated 20.6.2012.
