Here’s a quick comparison to help you choose the best Income Tax book for detailed study and practical use:
1. V.K. Singhania Strengths:
Very comprehensive and updated regularly.
Covers theory in detail along with explanations of important sections and provisions.
Widely used by practitioners and students alike.
Includes practical illustrations, examples, and case laws.
Good for practical application and exam preparation.
Limitations:
Sometimes can be heavy for beginners.
May not cover every tiny detail or latest judicial pronouncements immediately.
2. Girish Ahuja Strengths:
Detailed and systematic coverage of Income Tax laws.
Easy language, good for conceptual clarity.
Often preferred by students for theory and fundamentals.
Limitations:
Less focus on practical case laws and advanced topics compared to Singhania.
Might be slightly less updated on recent amendments.
3. Regarding Cases and Practical Points For case laws and practical nuances like the example you gave (interest income limit for audit applicability), V.K. Singhania’s book is more comprehensive.
Additionally, for latest case laws, circulars, and amendments, practitioners often rely on professional journals, tax bulletins, and online databases (like Taxmann, CAclubindia, etc.).
