When we have to take Service tax No. and from Where & How ?

11 August 2009 Pls tell me sir
when,where & How can we take the Service tax no. in Gujarat ?
If I have a Mines of Dolomite Stone which stone is used in Cosmetic Product,Washing Powder,Toothpaste and many more areas.
I am only Providing Dolomite Stones to Factories to Crush the Stone & become Powder for above Product.
would I have to take Service Tax No. for Production of Dolomite Stone.
Do my work is consider as service ?
/////////////I have also know that If I am used rented Machinery to Cut the Stone from Mountain of Stone,I have to take Service tax No.?????. Pls tell me if this is right or wrong ? and if yes Pls tell if I am not doing with rented Machinery but from my Purchase Machinery. SO what difference is going to be.????????? eventhen I also take Service tax no or not ???????//////

From the information provided by you, you are a service receiver and not a service provider.

In the first case, you are providing stone to factories for further processing. It is assumed that, the crushed material are returned by the factories to you. If at all service tax is applicable, it will be on the factories and not on you.

In the seconnd case, you are using hired equipments. Here also the provider of equipment are rendering service to you. Hence, here again you are not liable to service tax.

Based on the information provided by you, you are not required to obtain service tax registration.
