When to start articleship to be eligible for may 2016 attemp

23 October 2015 i have registered under direct entry scheme. I am planning to do 1 year of articleship in small firm and remaining in a reputed firm. i want to know when should i start my artileship to be eligible in may 2016 attempt and also clearing and getting articleship transferred. thank you for your answers
