Vluntary registration under service tax

Many authorities require Service Tax Registration no. even from the new units, but department refuse to grant the registration since turnover is below Rs. 9.00 lacs.

Please clarify whether any person is entitled for Voluntary Service Tax Registration, even providing the services but not liable to pay any service tax since within exemption limit.
Can the department refuse to grant the Registration to such voluntary applicants.

04 July 2016 Department can't refuse to grant the registration to such voluntary applicants. Register through ACES site online you will get registration No. then send the documents to dept they will not refuse.

04 July 2016 but sir, they send back the application and insist on undertaking that party will deposit the service tax

04 July 2016 Give an undertaking that party will deposit the service tax in case services rendered exceed the thresh hold.

04 July 2016 It is a voluntary registration and any person is free to take registration with Service Tax. They do not have power to refuse the registration on this ground. You can write a letter to the Assistant Commissioner of Concerned Division about the unreasonable demand of the service tax officials.
