02 July 2009 My brother is going to Singapore permanently.Previously he was in India.He has filed his returns for the A.Y 2009-10,he is leaving for Singapore on sept.2th.So i want to ask is that whether he has to file his returns for A.Y 2010-11,before leaving Singapore.While immigration do they ask about income tax returns.What about the subsequent years whether he has to file his returns.

03 July 2009 Hie Ranjit,

You dont have to be panic dear, as you clarify that you have filed your bro return for the a/y 2009-10 (as he is resident for t he same a/y as per sec.6 of IT act) but when he will leave India for Singapore on 2nd of sep. in the next a/y he will be Non Resident Indian as per seciton 6 again but you have to file your bro return for the a/y 2010-2011 on or after 31st Mar,2010 but before July,2010.
