Hey! Here's a breakdown to help you with the files and tools you're asking about for TDS return filing using Validation Utility (FVU) 4.2 and older versions like FLU 3.8 / RPU 3.8:
---
### Files you mentioned:
1. **TDS/TCS file name with path (Main Return File)** 2. **Challan Input File name with path** 3. **Error/Upload & Statistics report with path** 4. **Consolidated Filename with path**
---
### How these files are generated:
* **RPU (Return Preparation Utility) 3.8 or FLU 3.8:**
* These are the older utilities used to prepare TDS returns. * You fill in details for Form 24Q/26Q/27Q including deductee details, challans, etc. * When you **prepare and save** the return in RPU/FLU, it generates the **Main TDS file** (with `.txt` or `.fvu` extension depending on version) which corresponds to your “TDS/TCS file.” * The utility itself also generates the **challan file** as part of the return or separately. * After generating the return file, you run the **FVU (File Validation Utility)** to validate the data. * The **Error/Upload & Statistics Report** is generated after running the validation — you specify where to save it. * **Consolidated file** is usually a merged file of multiple quarters or multiple return files for ease of upload, created through NSDL's website or TRACES portal after uploading returns.
* **NSDL Website / TRACES:**
* You can download the **Challan Input File** from NSDL, especially if you want to cross-check challan details for your TAN. * The **Consolidated file** or consolidated report can be downloaded after returns are filed, useful for corrections or revisions.
---
### Your query about generating files with FLU 3.8 (old utility):
* The old FLU 3.8 utility **does not have a graphical interface to enter data like RPU 3.8**, but you can **prepare and generate the TDS return file using text files** or **Excel templates** as per instructions. * Once the return file is prepared, you **validate it using FVU 4.2**. FVU doesn't create these data files; it only validates. * The **Error/Upload report** is generated by FVU after validation. * If you need to create or edit the main return data file, it's easier to switch to **RPU 3.8** or newer tools that have a proper interface.
---
### Summary and Suggestions:
* To **prepare and generate TDS return data file** (Form, challan, annexure) easily, use **RPU 3.8 or later**. * **FLU 3.8 is more manual** and meant for advanced users familiar with file formats. * The **validation utility (FVU 4.2) only validates** and produces error and statistics reports. * **Challan files can be downloaded from NSDL** separately. * Consolidated files are mainly from NSDL/TRACES portals.

If you want, I can guide you step-by-step to generate a TDS return file properly using RPU or help with the entire process from filling data to validating and uploading.
