09 January 2014 sometimes a single challan may be used to pay interest for various quarters...in such a case, you can apportion part of the amount to particular quarter and remaining to the other relevant quarters..

09 January 2014 Dear Sir,

Please example.

28 July 2025 Sure! Here's a simple example to explain the **"Interest to be allocated/apportioned"** column in the challan details in RPU 3.8:

---

### Example:

Suppose you have one challan where you paid **₹10,000** as TDS principal amount **and ₹2,000 as interest** for late deposit of TDS.

Now, imagine this challan covers **two different quarters**, say:

* Quarter 1: TDS principal ₹5,000, Interest ₹1,000
* Quarter 2: TDS principal ₹5,000, Interest ₹1,000

While filing your TDS return, you need to allocate or **apportion the interest amount** between the quarters properly.

In the challan details, under **"Interest to be allocated/apportioned"**, you will specify:

* For Quarter 1: ₹1,000 interest
* For Quarter 2: ₹1,000 interest

This way, the interest amount is split correctly across the quarters for which the TDS payment and interest relate.

---

Without this, the system may wrongly assign the entire interest to a single quarter.

Does that help? Want me to show how to enter this in RPU step-by-step?
