can any one guide me that whether tax is deductible at source on payment of shipping freight to foreign shipping companies.

25 January 2011 Where payments are made to shipping agents of non resident ship owners or charterers, the provisions of section 172 will apply and not section 195 / 194C. Pl refer CBDT Circular 723 dated 19-09-1995 for full details.

27 January 2011 I agree with Mr. Warrier. but What will be the position if payment is not made to agents of non-resident ship owner?
