12 January 2011 what is TDS? how can we judge that the TDS is deducted on that item? and what is the difference between VAT and TDS? Are both applicable on one invoice?

13 January 2011 TDS is deduction of tax at source, that is payer will deduct the tax while making the payment. It is not deceided item wise, it is based on nature of transaction.

How can we judge that this item or payment is to be applicable for TDS dedycation?
and all VAT, TDS and service tax is applicable on one invoice?

VAT is applicable on sale of goods

Service tax is applicable on providing services to the client

TDS is aplicable on payment received for rendering service,salary,other nature of category.

TDS is not shown any where in invoice .

it is only deducting after making payment to the serivce provider as tax in advance.

Can we have tds and service tax on repair and maintainance of --- 1. building, 2 .consumable items,3. machinary, 4 computer etc

repairs and maintainence attarct service tax as well as TDS under section 94J

if the amount exceeds Rs 30000/- we need to deduct TDS @ 10%. on the total invoice value.
