One of my clients daughter participated in singing competetion organised by one of the TV channel. She was awarded with Rs. 5 Lakhs. Out of that 30 of TDS was deducted. Whether she can claim refund of that TDS by filing the return by calculating tax for resident women assessee?

Yes, she can claim refund for diff. in tax payable as per slab rates applicable to woman assessee and TDS by filing return, provided other incomes are less than basic exemption limit of Rs. 190,000 or income charable up to 20% slab then only it will be beneficial to her.

Amount receied from Lottery, Gambling, Games by chance will be taxable at speacial rate of 30% flat. so the refund is not possible if the amount given in games by chance

Incase prize money awarded as per talent you can go for normal rates and refund
