Tax Query after death

17 July 2009 Hi,
my father passed away in june 2008. I have recently received a letter from the IT dept regarding some queries in relation to my fathers IT returns for the year 07-08.

I am absolutely unaware of his finances and so is my mom. What should we do?

17 July 2009 first of all u must file death certificate to it department and wait for further procceding

17 July 2009 Continuing Mr Varun,there can be no valid proceddings against a dead person.It is for this reason that the law provides for proceedings to be continued against legal representatives.
