For tax purposes in India, **dividend income is taxable in the year in which it is actually received or credited to the shareholder's account**, not when it is proposed or declared.
So, if the company **proposed** the dividend in FY 2011-12 but actually **declared and distributed it after the AGM in FY 2012-13**, then the tax on that dividend income will belong to **FY 2012-13**.
### Summary:
* Dividend proposed in FY 2011-12 — **Not taxable in FY 2011-12** * Dividend declared and distributed in FY 2012-13 — **Taxable in FY 2012-13**
