Tax exemption for medical insurance for senior citizen

23 August 2014 I would like to know whether income tax exemption under section 80 D is available up to Rs 20000 in case the tax payee himself is a senior citizen. ( Normally if one of the dependent is a senior citizen an additional amount of Rs 5000 can be claimed as medical insurance premium). Can it be claimed by a senior citizen who himself is a tax payee.
