surrender of service tax regn.no.

12 August 2009 Dear Sir/Madam

We are a transporter(by road) and we have a service tax regn. No. but after april 2009 we have not charged service tax in any bill because the service tax paid by consignee(service receiver) so i want to know what is the proceedure for surrender of service tax regn.No.we will submited all dues of tax in sep-09(quarter) can i submit surrender application with (apr 09-oct 09) return.(st-3)

13 August 2009 The consignor / consignee are liable only if specfied. For transportation for individuals/ unregistered firms and maybe Govt itslef the GTA is to pay the ST. If you are not provding services to these catgeoiries then only can you surrender the registration.
Too much confusion exists in this entry - difficult to advise on its future. My suiggestion is to continue to file retursn indicating the turnover.
