What is the legal and organisational structure of Big 4 Accounting & Auditing Firms (Deloitte, PwC, KPMG and E&Y)?

they work more or less like a franchise model. the main company sits for example, EY in USA. the entities in other countries are just member firms which on paper have no shareholding relationship with the main company. They share resources, brand name etc. The money is moved as fees for sharing these resources.
