06 March 2008 what is the service tax rate for tours n travels business? And it should be levied on actual service charges claimed or not?

07 March 2008 Value of Taxable Service
Gross amount charged by tour operator from the client for services in relation to a tour including charges for any accommodation, food or any other facilities provided in relation to such tour.
Exemptions
· State Roadways Corporations
· 60% abatement on package tour ( from 01/03/2006 to 22/08/2007)
· 75% abatement on package tour ( from 23/08/2007)
· 90% abatement if services are soley for booking or arranging accomodation, teansporation–from 01/03/2006
· Foreign tour
· Bokking agents
· Religious/Education institutes organisation tours

07 March 2008 Service Tax @ 12.36% on billed raised in the name of customers otherthan tours & travels co. which acquires vehicles for giving service to others. It should be levied on actual service charges. No Service Tax will be levied on bill raised in the name of customers of tours & travels co. which acquires vehicles for giving service to others. Thanks.

07 March 2008 Mr. Chintan is elaborating that service tax is not charged when one tour and travel agent provides service to another tour and travel agent dealing in hire of vehicles or vehicles taken on hire

08 March 2008 SERV. TAX RATE IS 12.36% CURRENTLY ON ALL TAXABLE SERVICES (109 AT PRESENT)CHARGEABLE ON GROSS SERVICE CHARGES LEVIED BY BILL ON THE CUSTOMER.
