whether newly introduced sec. 234F will also attract penalty even if I file NIL return (Income less than 2.5L) after the due date.

Yes a penalty of Rs.1000/- levied.

234F will not attract in your case.

If you file your return with income less than Rs.5 lakh you have to pay late fee of Rs.1000/-
