31 July 2012 Have never seen such incidence where ITO ask to provide tally data.
In my view he can ask for copy of ledger etc but not tally data.

31 July 2012 ITO can ask for the information which will facilitate him to determine the correct income of the assessee. Whether ITO can ask for tally data will depend upon how strongly you have pleaded before ITO about the robustness of your tally data. But the point is clear, he/she can very well ask the same.

31 July 2012 I remember of a case when the counsell of the assessee was not giving anything.. and he was claiming that SIR it is in tally. So finally ITO said.. good you have it in tally. So provide me with TALLY.

01 August 2012 tally is software maintain books /ledger. but ITO ask(strutiny case)only ledger /finncial statement with supporting document only not ask for tally data .
