I hv received a intimation under section 143(1) of the income tax Act,1961. for the assesment year 2008-09
the income stated is 134282, tax is nil but interest under section 234C is mentioned as 592/-.
what it is this interest? I am I liable to pay it.

Intimation like these have been received by 150,000 people all salaried employees because of some software problem in Bandra's processing center at Mumbai.
However you need to write to the concerned ITO for the same and tell him about the error and to rectify the intimation u/s 154.
