For showing exempt income in ITR-1 when using the Java utility or other software like Winman, here’s what you need to know:
ITR-1 Java Utility does not have a specific field for exempt income like the Excel utility does.
So, when using Java utility or third-party software, exempt income is generally not reported separately in ITR-1 because the form itself doesn’t provide a separate field for exempt income.
However, you must disclose exempt income for tax purposes, especially if it’s more than ₹5,000, as per Income Tax rules.
You can show the exempt income in Schedule EI (Exempt Income) if the software provides the schedule.
If the software doesn’t provide that, you can mention exempt income details in the 'Exempt Income' tab/section if available, or sometimes in the ‘Other Information’ part.
Alternatively, you can disclose the exempt income details in the Income Tax Return’s ‘Exempt Income’ schedule if you upgrade to ITR-2 or ITR-3, which allow exempt income reporting explicitly.
Summary: For ITR-1 via Java utility, exempt income is not shown separately on the form itself.
Use Excel utility or higher ITR forms for explicit exempt income reporting.
Always keep supporting documents ready to show exempt income if demanded by tax authorities.
