i am a manager in a medical institute that is run through the trust there are some service s as manpower etc. there is also a canteen for the students and visitors I got a notice by the service tax dept.to get registration pls tell me what is the provision before july,2012 and after it? it's urgent.

Prior to 01.07.2012 the service provided by an educational institute (but not by commercial training or coaching centre) were exempted.
Business auxiliary services as listed in notification 14/2004 when provided to an educational institute were also exempted w.e.f. 10.09.2004
w.e.f. 01.07.2012 any service provided by or to educational institution is not taxable.
prior to 01.07.2012 rent was also exempted
